glazed over

It's only 8:30 here, and my eyes are closing. What a day! I got to put the fun in FUNeral this morning at a service here at GS. I was asked to sing a solo "Nearer my God to Thee." I haven't used my classical song voice much lately. It was a change to sing with good diction and while standing in performance stance. I've gotten used to dancing and moving while I sing. I got some flowers today from Kevin. There are lilies in it--the smell of them reminds me of a funeral. Strange. Aside from that, they're lovely.

A 3 hour meeting consumed the afternoon. For whatever reason, I feel bogged down with lots of tasks this week. I want the special music/dance to be really powerful on Sunday, so have been spending time choreographing and memorizing the song. This is going to have far more movement than the last one, which causes me to lose my breath while singing, so I need to get my voice in shape for the weekend! I feel so fortunate that women are coming out of the woodwork to help with the dance. It's not going to be too complicated. Simple and meaningful. We'll see how that goes. Oh, and I'm preaching one service too. Ahh, so much to do!

Amy Luhmann and I drove up to the Wiedenmann's house tonight. We're both taking turns house sitting while they fly to Vietnam to receive their new son, so we got a crash course in home repair, earthquake safety, and dog poop clean up. I was introduced to an amazing little tool: dispoz-a-scoop. They are the coolest little things. Just scoop the poop and throw it away! Genius! It's good that they have them because Sue said, "sometimes Kelly will dump 3 times!!!" Thank goodness for dispoz-a-scoop! I have something to look forward to when I'm house sitting!

I've got the eye for two things: recyclables and pictures. Amy and I raided some recycling cans on our way down from PV. She got me hooked on recycling here in CA. You get serious cash here in CA for bottles, so I'm going to collect them too. Then we realized that we were driving with open bottles in our car. Oh dear. As we were driving, a massive procession of police lights came at us. No, it wasn't a late night funeral, no, it wasn't the Pres. It was SANTA! Here in Torrance, the police escort him around the neighborhoods on a float, and he stops to give kids a candy cane and lets them sit on his lap. I tried to get a picture, but couldn't find my camera. Amy was worried about the open bottles! Oh, and pictures...good news. I won 2nd place in the Fall Colors photography contest I entered. Click here to see the other winners! This picture won me a $50 gift certificate!

Just wondering how you are planning to go beyond the Thanksgiving Eve service? It was beyond awesome: an outstanding and thought provoking sermon delivered like a pro, moving solo (self-accompanied on the piano, no less), communion, Spirit choosen and heart-felt worship and praise, and thank-you notes to move us into action.

Can't wait to discover what God leads you to share with us this Sunday. Oh, maybe dozens of women dancing to "Emmanuel"...
